I am not sure if that is an appropriate title for an academic blog, but I guess that is part of why I am here. I want to find all those things that are not appropriate for the academic and make them appropriate.
Why? Because I can.
I want to roll up to the Ivory Tower with my ceiling missing, blasting 2-Chainz, and discussing how he subverts mainstream culture by simply managing to make it to the mainstream. That's another post.
This blog is my journey into bring my two worlds together: hip hop and rhet/comp. Many say they do not belong together and some will label it cultural studies. Call it what you will. As they say in hip hop: "We outchea" (We out here). Meaning, I am here to stay and to represent. No matter the label, I'm here to turn the academy into a cypher.
This point forward begins my return to the academy as a student and not a teacher. From here on all posts are focused on Composition as Applied Rhetoric. I am currently torn on how I feel about composition and rhetoric. One thing I sure of is that they belong together. What I want to figure out is what the represent individually, why they belong together, and how can both be utilized effectively.
I believe that rhetoric embodies the tools, techniques, skills, etc that we use to compose. The situation of communication, in itself, is rhetorical. I am simplifying a bit, but you get the gist.
Well, thanks to all who wander here and to those required for this class.
Welcome to Academic Cypher!
